In Part 2 of my interview with local Pilly Armstrong, we look at EnergyCo and ACEREZ’s nonsensical answer to their wildlife corridor destruction. After bulldozing and wood-chipping hundreds of trees during nesting season, they have planted dead branches in holes and put up signs declaring the area an “Environmental Protection Zone.” This is not protection—it’s a mockery. There is no living flora or fauna left to protect in those zones. Offsets in another part of the state won’t bring it back. Our communities deserve better than this hypocrisy.

According to the latest BloombergNEF (BNEF) Energy Transition Investment Trends report, global investment in clean-energy technologies surged to US $1.8 trillion in 2023, rising sharply from US $1.1 trillion in 2022.
This marks the highest level of clean-energy investment in history, driven by rapid deployment of electrified transport, renewable power, storage, grid upgrades, and new clean-tech manufacturing capacity.
BNEF notes that the acceleration reflects:
- governments increasing policy support
- consumers adopting clean technologies faster
- companies expanding electrification, renewable, and storage strategies
- global energy-security concerns driving diversification
In 2022, clean-energy investment matched fossil-fuel supply investment for the first time.
By 2023, clean-energy investment significantly outpaced fossil fuels globally.

- Renewables attracted US $495 billion in 2022, before rising further in 2023.

- EU and United States remain strong, with the US benefiting from the Inflation Reduction Act’s manufacturing credits and tax incentives.
"LEADING THE WORLD" NORWAY Leads the World in Electric Vehicle Adoption — 2025 Update
Norway remains the undisputed world leader in EV adoption, with several updated milestones:
1. EV Market Share — Updated Numbers
- Over 20% of all vehicles on Norwegian roads are now electric.
- In 2023 and 2024, EVs consistently exceeded 80–90% of new passenger-vehicle sales.
- Plug-in hybrids continue to decline as battery-electric vehicles dominate demand.
In heavy-duty transport — one of the hardest sectors to electrify:
- EV penetration has reached ~8% of new sales, a steep increase driven by fleet commitments and government targets.
2. Norway’s Policy Success Story

- Over 90% of Norway’s electricity comes from hydropower, creating a low-cost, clean, stable supply.
- This underlying clean-energy base makes EV charging genuinely low-emission.

Norway’s public charging network has expanded rapidly:
- Over 22,000 public chargers installed nationwide (fast, rapid and destination).
- Coverage now includes:

- gyms
- most major highways
Urban fuel stations are being re-engineered to add compact EV fast-charging units where petrol pumps once dominated.
5. Profit Pools & Power Demand - McKinsey Updated Context
McKinsey’s modelling shows:
- By 2030, on-the-go and destination charging may generate up to 75% of charging-sector profits, despite representing ~40% of total power demand.
- Home charging, while accounting for ~25% of demand, will generate only ~10% of profit pools reinforcing that public charging networks are commercially critical.
What Norway Teaches the World (And Why It’s Relevant to Australia)
Norway’s EV transformation demonstrates that:
- Consumer incentives + reliable clean energy + visible infrastructure = mass adoption
- Early government support does not need to be permanent
- Clean-energy systems thrive when generation is close to consumers
- Urban-friendly solutions - including micro-wind, rooftop solar, and EV charging help reshape load distribution on national grids
Australia faces grid-capacity challenges and resistance to large infrastructure projects.
Norway’s model reinforces the value of distributed, household-level clean generation - exactly where micro-wind + rooftop solar hybrids provide resilience and local generation capacity.
